Exactly why was this written?
This is a collection of stereotypes I received from a class of Chinese students and a class of American students. Both were University classes. I transformed them into a poem in order to show the absurdity of stereotyping a collection of people.
do americans have manners?
no, americans are fat.
do chinese people have "sex scandals"?
no, chinese people have manners.
do americans always study?
no, they have freedom.
do chinese people own guns?
no, they are too traditional.
I cannot agree more about the absurdity of it all. I have to be honest though, I was a bit surprised when I first read it. I've always perceived you to be broad-minded. Much to my relief, I was not proven wrong.
this is very interesting. just reading through the list makes one realise the absurdity of it.
people are stereotyped everywhere and when you come to think of it, you realise how could you have been so stupid.
very edifying. funny how we have to put everything and everyone into little boxes in order to make meaning.
RE: the first list -
The saddest part of these is that all stereotypes have their foundation in some element of truth.
